Brad Fortner, Program Director, Operations and Technology - Brad's role is to ensure that Ryerson’s Rogers Communications Centre stays on the cutting edge. His efforts proved essential to the initial technology planning and installation management stage of the Centre’s start-up. He has since provided leadership in establishing the Rogers Centre’s pioneering efforts in HDTV production, Non Linear Editing, Visual Computing and Interactive Television. His most recent work involved the negotiation and supervision of the installation of three TV studios, ensuring that modern digital production standards were met.In 2005, Mr. Fortner played a key role in establishing Ryerson University’s three-camera HDTV television studio, the first of its kind in Canada. In 2002 he negotiated the largest acquisition of HDTV production equipment for use in education and research. He has been recognized by Ryerson University for his decades of service, receiving the prestigious "Ryersonian of the Year," awarded in 1999. In 2004, the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers honoured him with the “Citation for Outstanding Service,” based on his work with the Toronto SMPTE Section. Brad has been twice earned a finalist position in the "Educator of the Year" category of the Canadian New Media Awards.
Mr. Fortner has chaired SMART Toronto's New Media Trainers Alliance, has been a contributing editor to Broadcaster Magazine, and has been strongly involved with Canadian Digital Television Inc. since 1999, concentrating on ATSC data transmission and interactivity. He currently sits as Promotions advisor to the Toronto Section of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers.
