Thanks to Jim Loney for taking detailed notes at the September meeting re: Final Cut Server

Final Cut Server
Scalable, large – small workgroups
Client software JAVA-based XPsp2 or Vista, or MAC OS X

Media Asset Cataloging – asset management system
All major file types video + PNG, TIFFs, etc…
Understood file tyepes will automatically create proxy thumbnail
If not understood, will version, etc… but with generic icon
Rights access based on groups

Rapid Search and Access
Metada fields, actual fields created by defaults, user-creatabile too, import existing database via user-creatable fields
Metadat a fields > Groups> Sets POSTRESQUL system underneath
Idea of production container (a folder), track with project invoices, receipts, spreadsheets, + Video

Workflow Automation
Watch and respond system
Watch a directory, scan every minute, 5 minutes
Will add to database when picks-up
Email notification upon adding if necessary
Convert PSDs to TIFF via automation worflow
Watch metadata field to initiate workflow

Apple bought out Proximity

Pick facilty template upon start-up, then you cutomize
Server is the database manager, workflow automation

Collaboration Tools
FCS doesn’t even require final cut
Understands how to read a FCP project file
Can check out a project to field laptop, locked, nobody else can edit
Check, FCS sees new asset, will ask if you want to import
Can turn on versioning, up to X versions you want to keep

Seamless Delivery
Encoding machine is basically compressor 3, FCS comes with Compressor 3
Comes with Q master distributed encoding engine
Batch processing, usefull for outputting 1 video with multiple outputs settings, drop into compressor que, let compressor do all the backend processing

Flexible Configuration
> 1000 clients
